We promote care and respect, and expect high standards in all aspects of school life. We aim to meet the needs of young people in Northampton preparing them for adult and working life in the 21st century.
At Overstone Park Primary School we have developed a curriculum with four intentions which:
Develop our learners’ learning (Our head and body: what we learn)
Develop the character of our learners (Our heart and character: Who we are when we learn)
Develop behaviours and habits to become effective learners (Our actions and attitudes: How we act when we learn)
Develop the moral compass of our learners (Our place in the community and wider world: Who we are)
We introduce basic number work and phonics with a view to all children achieving very well by the end of the year, with a good level of development. We monitor progress regularly from Reception in reading, numeracy and phonological development, and set termly and annual milestone targets from the first year in which children join the school. This facilitates effective tracking and early intervention where needed.
Our flexible programme develops learner skills and understanding in core subjects including English, Mathematics and Science. Our single subject approach to teaching non-core subjects, including Geography, History, Computing, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Spanish, PE, PSHE and Music extends coverage beyond the revised national curriculum and promotes consistency and progress in learning.
Due to its proximity to Wootton Park School, its ‘Outstanding’ rated sister school, Overstone Park Primary School will benefit from leadership support, as well as the use of subject specialists to deliver Spanish from age 4, PE and technology.
Our curriculum will be based on the established curriculum developed by Wootton Park School which has a clear purpose and is focused around excitement and love for learning. We aim to ensure that learning is bespoke to the needs of our learners and demonstrates a strong understanding of specific needs to succeed in life.
