Dear Parents and Carers,
We have been greatly encouraged that the new Overstone Park Primary School is already proving such a popular choice with prospective families applying for one of the initial 30 Reception places for September 2025.
We continue to make steady progress behind the scenes and have also received great interest from teachers and support staff keen to join Mrs Natalie Green who takes up the role of Head of School this month.
The groundwork, which was originally planned for late summer 2024, started just before the Christmas break due to unforeseen delays. This means that the completion of the new flagship eco build school won’t be ready in time for September 2025. The current construction programme is now scheduled for completion by April 2026.
As a result of the delay, and in order to ensure that pupils don’t miss out on a chance to attend the brand-new school, we’re pleased to confirm that Wootton Park School can temporarily host the new Overstone Park Primary School pupils for the first two school terms, between September 2025 and March 2026. Both Overstone Park and Wootton Park belong to the same Trust – Northampton Free School Trust. These temporary plans are subject to final approval by the Department for Education which is expected by the time Reception offers are made in mid-April 2025.
We are fortunate to have an area of Wootton Park School that we can dedicate to the Overstone Park Primary Reception class, enabling us to deliver our commitment to opening on schedule in September 2025 and ensuring that the new Reception children can access a first-rate, safe learning environment from day one. Although Wootton Park School is located just along the A43/A45 route to the south of town, we recognise that parents and carers, many of whom will be living in the Overstone Leys area, lead busy family and working lives and are looking at ways to make this as accessible as possible to our founding families, including access to Wootton Park School’s wraparound care.
An application for a Reception place at Overstone Park Primary School for September 2025 is, in essence, a risk-free choice for 2025 as applications are made in addition to the usual Local Authority process. This means that successful applicants will be offered two places on 16th April, one from Overstone Park Primary School and one through your Local Authority. We will be keeping applicants updated with our plans and holding further information events with opportunities to tour the dedicated Reception accommodation at Wootton Park School before they need to accept an offer. This will ensure that they have all the information they need to accept a place at Overstone Park Primary School with confidence.

We are holding a final Open Event for Reception 2025 starters on Wednesday 8th January from 5.00pm – 6.30pm at Wootton Park School and welcome all interested parents and carers to come along with their children to find out more about our plans for our exciting new primary school and ask any questions they may have.
